Evolving AESO market rules and government policy have helped create other opportunities for large industrial customers to participate in the ancillary services market in Alberta. Ancillary services are required for the safe and reliable operation of the electricity market by the AESO. These opportunities include such valuable services such as Load Shed Services for Imports (LSSi), Supplemental and possible Spinning Reserves. Customers with flexible operations, or with on-site generation can achieve significant benefits by participating in the various ancillary services products available in Alberta.

The market for ancillary services continues to evolve in Alberta as increasing amounts of non-dispatchable renewable energy is integrated into the electric system.
